Five Cool Things About RV Solar Panels

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Going green and renewable energy are the buzz words of the day. Nearly everyone is conscious that we need to curb our massive energy appetite and start conserving. What's not as clear is just how to do that. Often the green energy alternatives are expensive and complicated. Well this isn't true for RV Solar Panels. Here's five cool things about them and why they might be perfect for your 'home away from home'.

1. Not As Expensive As You Think Most systems can be had for less $800 and there are some systems that are as little as $200. They are widely available at camping stores and websites, where you can find some of the best deals. And when you factor in the money you will save on fuel for your generator, the panels will usually pay for themselves in less than a couple years. Plus, the prices on solar panels have been falling dramatically lately. Many panels have fallen by 20%, and the trend should continue. And, hey, money is green right?

2. Easy To Install Since solar generates DC power, and most RV's use DC power, these two are a match made in heaven. Even for rigs that use AC power, they have a battery or batteries that must be fed DC power. So installing the RV kit is often as easy as mounting the panel in a safe and stable place on the roof, and then running wire to the battery box. Most systems include a charge controller that prevents the cell from overcharging the battery bank. It's also a cinch to expand the system later by simply adding another panel. Most charge controllers included in the kits can take an additional 1 or 2 solar cells.

3. Stay Out Farther, Longer When you get an RV Solar Panel installed, you'll quickly realize that it extends your range for travel. You can go farther and stay out longer. Used to reserving fuel for the backup generator? Well now you can probably keep that for the vehicle and let the panels keep the batteries charged. And now you can use the stereo, microwave and TV for longer at night and not feel guilty, since the sun will just recharge the batteries for free in the morning!

4. Clean and Quiet If you're tired of the noisy, messy backup generator, a solar kit can make you pretty much forget about all that. PV panels have no moving parts, require virtually no maintenance, make no noise, don't need fuel other than ample sunshine, and are hassle free. Now you can get out into the woods and actually enjoy the silence of the wilderness. What a concept right?

5. That Green Feeling It can't be understated that you will feel a sense of satisfaction by helping the environment, even if its a small contribution. After all isn't RV-ing about getting away from civilization and appreciating mother nature? And wouldn't it be great to be both enjoying mother nature and helping it out a little by burning less carbon? Now that's a good feeling.

Affordable Summer Vacationing

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

RV camping is by far the most relaxing, luxurious forms of camping out there.  You are able to experience the solitude of nature while still having warm running water, a comfortable bed to sleep in, and a working, flushable toilet.  If you have not ever tried RV camping, I strongly recommend renting an RV for a weekend to discover the fun and joys that come with camping in an RV.

If you are on the hunt for a family vacation for this summer that is both affordable and fun you should definitely look into RV camping.  Even if you do not think of yourself, or your family, as very outdoorsy it is easier than you think to plan and carry out a camping trip.  Renting an RV for your camping trip gives you a full kitchen, air conditioning, plenty of sleeping room, and a place to get out of the elements.  It is a simple process; all you have to do is choose the dates of your vacation and what city you wish to pick up and drop off your RV in.

Generally, you pay a certain amount upon making rental reservations and the rest of your payment when you pick up your RV.  When booking your campsite, make sure to ask if it has hookups for your RV, which should include water and electricity.  A good idea for summer camping is a campsite near the beach, a lake or the springs.  Water activities keep everyone cool and happy, especially if you have kids!  So don't hesitate to try something new this summer, you and your kids will not be disappointed.

Many people hesitate to rent an RV for vacations because it may seem like costs can add up quickly.  However, RV camping avoids the many costs you would pay on other types of vacations.  In fact, there are probably more ways in which the proactive RV rental vacationer can save money than in any other mode of vacation travel.  If you choose to travel in what is called the shoulder seasons (in between peak seasons and off seasons) rates can be 20%-40% below peak season rates.  Entertainment costs are a lot lower because simply camping is your major source of entertainment.  Also, most parks you will be staying in have a wide variety of recreational activities available.  RV camping also provides you with opportunity to prepare most of your own meals saving you a great deal on eating out.

Buy Smart, Buy Used

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

It is easy to go out and buy a brand new RV if you have a good amount of money to spend.  Many of us, however, have found used travel trailers for sale at far better prices than new. Right now is an excellent time to be searching for a used RV, because many owners are having to sell their own to save money, or go gain a little extra to help their financial situation.  Buying a used RV is a wise financial move not only right now with the economy, but all the time.  RVs and Travel Trailers are known for holding their value for extended lengths of time.  In fact, with the market and the economy in the state that it is right now, those finding themselves less well-off financially decide that their RV is the first thing they need to sell.  This gives you an opportune time to find used RVs that are in great condition, for sale, and for cheap.

People who aim to buy such RVs must keep in mind to carry out a thorough inspection of the RV.  It has often been seen that dealers promise their customers that the vehicle is in top condition, but in reality the RV is in more disrepair than one would imagine.  If you are in the market for a new or used RV but can't quite scrape up all the cash, there are several options of RV loans and financing available.  If you shop around wisely, you can find many competitive rate loans for general RVs and motor homes.  Most companies will finance new and used RV purchases, refinance existing RVs and grant motor home loans.

Search For Your Used RV

You should always start searching for your ideal RV in your local area.  If you are lucky enough to find the right RV, you will save on traveling costs and transport costs.  Your lowest price option will be to find a used travel trailer for sale at an auction.  Lately, there have been many RVs and other vehicles that have been repossessed by banks and by credit unions. Every month there are many auctions held in every state.  You are much more likely to find a good RV at an auction, than waiting for a suitable one to appear in the classified ads.  Used RVs for sale are usually sold off at a much lesser price than the market rate.  Such RVs are acquired by dealers from the original manufacturer itself or through financial institutions who have repossessed the vehicle from an individual and have sold it off to the dealer at a discounted rate.
