Summer vacations are an ideal time for families to engage in the outdoor thrills. When traveling with the whole family, the most ideal mode of transportation would be an RV or a camper. An RV is like a temporary house on wheels. They are normally equipped with amenities for everyday use such as a bathroom, kitchen area and sleeping area depending on their size. It is normally linked to another vehicle and is most suitable for traveling long distances as well as for camping trips. Knowledge on how to tow a camper trailer is therefore important. Towing a camper is no easy task. The process should be done methodically and efficiently in order to avoid the camper from careening off the road.

There are important steps the traveler needs to follow so as to ensure that the camper or RV is securely attached to the car. The first step is for the driver to make sure that all items inside the RV are packed securely. This eliminates the risk of objects flying out of the camper when the vehicle is in motion. The driver should also ensure that all the items carried in the camper are relative in weight to the vehicle. If the items are too heavy, the vehicle towing the truck might not be able to sustain the weight. Most campers come with an instruction manual of the towing rate. The driver can use this as a guideline on the relevant weight the camper will can sustain. The heavier the vehicle, the more the weight it can sustain but the lighter the vehicle, the lighter the load should be.

The RV user should also ensure that the weight carried in the camper is evenly distributed. This ensures that the camper is stable enough to sustain the weight. These items should also be securely attached to the camper so that weight balance is maintained. When the vehicle is backed up to the front of the camper, the towing ball should be placed directly under the towing hitch of the camper. The user should then lower the towing hitch over the towing ball of the car. It is important to have the right hitch for the job. The right hitch should be able to hold the gross trailer weight of the camper. These hitches will need to be harmonized with the vehicle in order to reduce the risk of the vehicle swerving off the road. A stabilizer bar may be used as support this function. The stabilizer bar minimizes the risk of the camper swaying according to the motion of the vehicle. The size of the vehicle determines the type of hitch to be used as different vehicle sizes require different hitches.

The latch of the camper should also be efficiently secured to minimize on items falling off when the vehicle is in motion. Strong safety chains are also important in securing the camper to the towing car. Some campers feature a break system and this is an advantageous feature for vehicles carrying heavy loads. This ensures that in case of any mishaps, the vehicle has instant stopping power.

With the economy having a hard time getting back up from its fall, people are looking for more and more ways to save money. So instead of taking plane trips to the Caribbean, more people are turning to road and camping trips. These types of trips are less expensive than buying tickets for each of your family members and/or friends. But why do the savings have to stop there? You should think about investing in installing solar panels for your RV.

Many people stay away from installing solar panels because they believe its going to cost them a lot. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Most systems are under $1,000 and there are even some that are as little as $200. Most camping stores and websites have the information you need to get one installed in your RV. You can easily find one that fits within your budget. With the gas prices steadily rising, you could save so much more money by switching to PV systems.

When you have solar panels for your RV, you can see that you can go farther and stay out longer on the road. Even if you are at your campsite already, you can use your stereo, microwaves, TVs and even the lights a lot longer without feeling like you need to conserve energy. You have the security that you will not have to spend so much on batteries and fuel for the generator, because the sun will ways recharge your battery or generator for you!

Most generators are loud and can get annoying real quick. With a solar kit in your RV, you won't have to worry about the loud noise of your generator. The PV system doesn't make noise, has practically no moving parts, and don't need fuel other than the sunlight. It is virtually hassle free. Now while someone else is driving, you can enjoy the amenities in the back with no loud noise interfering with your rest!

One thing you should realize is that PV solar electric systems are just at the beginning. There will be lots of improvements along the way. Who knows, it may even power your RV completely. No more fuel, no more buying new batteries! Also, with the world finding new ways to go “green” you can contribute by installing a PV system. Solar energy is a great way to help the environment, and using it for your vehicles, whether to just power the battery or to run it without electricity is a smart and conscious decision.

Yes! A tire pressure monitoring system can save you money and here's how --

First, tires that are properly inflated last longer. There is less tread wear on a tire that is properly inflated, so your tires need to be replaced less often. Also, proper inflation helps protect the side walls, resulting in reduced chance of blowouts.

Overinflated tires don't "feel" the road as well and are more prone to damage from potholes and foreign road objects. Over inflation also leads to uneven tread wear.

Under inflation causes the tire to "bend" more as it rolls. These tires are much more likely fail while you are driving.

Second, tires that are properly inflated can save you money on gasoline. The U.S. Department of Energy reports that properly inflated tires can improve gas mileage by up to 30%, thereby saving you up to 8 cents per gallon on gas.

Tires that are under inflated (that is, less "round") require more energy to get moving and to maintain speed. More energy equals more gas equals more money out of your pocket.

Do you check your tires at least once a month? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that as many as one in three cars has underinflated tires. Tires can lose as much as 1 psi a month. Tires that are under inflated by as little as 6 psi could fail. In reality, that "little" 6 psi can account for up to 20% of the total proper inflation!

Tire pressure monitoring systems can save you money by monitoring your tires in real time. With the push of a button you can check up to 64 tires. (Wouldn't you like to see the RV with that many tires?) The systems generally start at about $200, plus sensors--the cost of a typical 5th wheel tire or twice the average cost of one motor coach tire. Many systems require no special tools for installation and do not need to be professionally installed.

Be honest. Can you really see every tire on your vehicle and the vehicle you are towing? Most rear cameras don't even allow this. You can keep an eye on your tire pressure monitor or you can keep an eye on the money flowing out of your pocket!

There are many different types of Outback travel trailers available today so if you want to buy one, there are several things you should know. Your individual needs should dictate what type of travel trailer you buy. In addition to standard travel trailers, there are also 5th wheel trailers and toy haulers. First of all you should select among travel trailers that satisfy the size and inside amenities you require. For example, there are travel trailers that are designed specifically to sleep 2 to 4 people. There are travel trailers that are smaller (hybrid campers, for example) or larger like 5th wheels. There are also travel trailers that will have different number of beds. For example, you may look at the travel trailers that have a large queen size bed as well as bunk beds for the kids. All travel trailers will have dinette that will make into a bed. The more luxurious ones may come with a free standing set of table and chairs. There are many options available.

You should also make sure that travel trailers that you look at satisfy the technical requirements of your tow vehicle. For example, there are small Outback travel trailers that can be towed by an SUV or even a Mini Van. However most will require a ¾ ton Pick-Up truck or SUV in order to tow the trailer safely. Different types of travel trailers will have different tow weights that will require different tow vehicles with different engines and different fuel requirements (diesel or unleaded fuel). Do a little research as to which type would work best for your individual requirements. A very important characteristic of towing a travel trailer is the fuel consumption. Because of the rising cost of fuel, you should think about lowering you gasoline expense because you will be spending a lot of time on the road.

Different types of Outback travel trailers will also have different inside amenities and equipment. There are several items you will want to consider having in the travel trailer you are thinking about buying. For example, travel trailers should include such amenities as a porcelain toilet, a stand up shower that has both cold and hot water. Air conditioning is vital if you live or plan to camp in warm weather states and the holding tanks for fresh and waste water need to be large enough to meet your families needs. Outback travel trailers will include a kitchen area with a lot of different kitchen equipment such as a stove, microwave and refrigerator. There are other amenities you will find that will be more specific to your personal needs. The basic specifications provided for all types of travel trailers will include the list of all inside equipment.

The bottom line is this. For a fun filled, inexpensive family vacation, you cannot go wrong by investing in a Outback travel trailer for your family. It will provide excellent family memories for many years to come.

Most people who are new to RVing and have just recently bought their first RV may be too excited to get out there on the road that they do not think about how much cargo they are loading. Every unit, whether it is an RV, camper, trailer, or a toy hauler, has its individual weight limits. It's one thing to have everything you need, but to have too much cargo on a trip can be dangerous. This can be the difference between a safe, enjoyable experience and a disastrous nightmare.

Before you set off on the road, make sure you know the manufacturer weight ratings for your vehicle. These include the Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWR), Gross Combined Weight Ratings (GCWR), and Gross Axle Weight Ratings (GAWR). Never exceed these weight limits that are set. They are there for a reason. Exceeding them would put a great risk to you and your family. Also note that you can be within the vehicle weight ratings but still exceed the axle rating. To avoid this, weight each axle separately and make sure the weight in your vehicle is distributed evenly.

To find out where you can weigh your vehicle, you can look through the yellow pages under moving companies and/or truck stops. There are different types of scales such as a platform scale, which can measure the entire vehicle, single axle scale that weighs one axle at a time, and a segmented platform scale that checks both the whole weight and that of each individual axle. Be sure the place that you do find have the appropriate scales.

When you go to have your vehicle or trailer weighed, make sure everything is loaded as if you were going camping the same day, which means include all passengers, cargo, pets, food, water, clothing, fuel, and propane tanks. If everyone can't come, bring something that’s approximately the same weight. You don't want to leave anything out and practically waste the trip to the scales. Once you get there, the weighing process isn't very difficult, just time consuming. Take your time and make sure you weigh everything correctly.

Not weighing your RV can cause you to damage your vehicle and ruin the trip altogether. Having too much weight can cause a tire to blow and possibly end up in an accident. For the safety of yourself, your family, and your recreational vehicle, follows the weight ratings and you'll have a great RV-ing experience.

Interested in doing a campervan holiday and want to begin it in Sydney? Campervans will be ready when you are. Sydney is a vibrant city with a fast paced life. You'll find everything in Sydney they say. There are a huge family of operators in Sydney. Too many campervans to choose from, different operators thus the statement also goes by way of saying that there are different vehicles of kinds and sizes available in the Sydney market. Start by counting off the number of people coming with you (if you are the driver) as long as you do not exceed to six you will all be enjoying in a one big vehicle.

Sydney has a very competitive market for tourism, campervan hire companies make a long line. We rely on a campervan hire company that delivers clean vehicles, the best price and reliable service.

Going back to the head count. Collectively, Sydney campervan models are 2 berth (can accommodate two people), 2.5 berth (two people and a child), 3 berth, 4 berth, 5 berth and 6 berth. The usual amenities of campervans include air conditioning / heating, kitchenette (cooking utensils, fridge, microwave, gas bottle, gas stove, Crockery & Cutlery, and tea towels), beddings of the drivers cabin and the rear. Other vehicles only have air conditioning / heating at the driver's cabin. Just like a little home on wheels. Your option of toilet and shower, and extra items (Outdoor Table, Outdoor Chair, child seat, and personal kit). A personal kit includes sleeping bag, bed sheet, pillow, pillow case and bath towel. Poke your head whether you need all the campervan facilities. Consider the season and your itinerary. Have a good trip.

Camping is a great way to save money and still be able to go on vacation. Getting out to nature can give you the stress free escape you want or even need from the everyday struggles and technologies. If you are new to camping or it has just been a while since your last trip, you may have a hard time trying to figure out what to do. It basically all depends on who you go camping with and and what you really want to do. Some may just want to spend time outside and relax with no phone calls and watch the stars at night while others may want to spend the time doing fun activities with your family and friends without the constant distractions of the internet or other things that might steal their attention. For those who want to do a wide range of activities, here are some of the things you can do.

Depending on the time you get there, you may want to relax a little bit instead of jumping into activities right away. Fishing can be a way to relax after that long drive you may just had. You can sit back and wait for those fish to hook onto your line. If your family all goes out on the boat, you may want to make sure they don't make too many movements or they might scare the fish away.

If you are traveling with kids, you can bring card games like Uno or even just a deck of cards and play poker, speed, or rummy. You can also have a little scavenger hunt with your kids. While they're playing cards or running around, go take some items, like plastic eggs with goodies inside, and hide them around your camp. Give them some directions and let them loose. Just be sure to not forget where you put everything!

When it gets dark, that doesn't mean the fun has to stop. If you brought some graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows, then bring on the s'mores. Build a campfire and you can start cooking. If someone knows how to play the guitar and remembered to bring it, you can all sing songs and even make some of your own, or just sing acapella! If you and your kids are up for it, you can tell ghost stories that you learned as a kid or just some funny ones you know. Being out in the open is perfect for stargazing also. Put out the fire, and make sure it's all out, and look up at the stars. Try to name as many constellations as you can and create some yourself. Don't forget to watch out for shooting stars and make a wish!

These are just a few activities you can do out there, but even if you can't find or think of anymore, then these can keep you entertained. Also, don't forget to allow some downtime between the activities. Part of being on vacation is to relax and have fun!
