Breaker, Breaker 1-9, Check Out The CB Shop
Tuesday, May 5th, 2009I remember having tons of fun with my parent's CB radio back in the late 70's. It was the era of Smokey and The Bandit and CBs were all the rage--not just for 18-wheelers but for everyday cars too, and especially for a little 8 year old boy like myself.
I don't think I'll ever forget the time I was with mom and dad traveling down the Interstate when I spotted a State Trooper. Of course, being the loyal CB'er that I was, I wanted to do my duty and share this vital information with my fellow "bandits". I nervously began in my high-pitched little boy voice: "Breaker, Breaker 1-9...this is Sneaky Snake... Just wanted to let you know there's a smokey at mile marker 109." A few seconds passed as I anxiously awaited a response from my traveling comrades. Suddenly, a voice comes over the airwaves loud and clear: "Thanks for telling 'em where I'm at, smart aleck!" I never did know if that was actually the smokey who had been monitoring Channel 19 as they were known to do or if it was just someone having fun with me. But either way, they got me good that day!
CBs are still relevant in today's world. After all, there are areas we all hit while traveling where we hit those "dead zones" without cell access. So CBs are great to keep in touch with your group when traveling in multiple vehicles. And if you're in a dead zone while traveling alone and have vehicle trouble out in the boonies, you'll be glad to have access to the world via Channel 9. And you never have to worry about using up all your "minutes" if you don't have an unlimited cell plan, nor do you worry about the potential risks of brain tumors and all that. You just get the peace of mind (and fun!) of a safe, reliable 2-way radio.
